Judge Byrd is known in the legal community for his dedication and fairness. His tenure at the 1st Judicial District of Court of Caddo Parish has been marked by a commitment to uphold the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the judicial process.
Prior to being elected to Caddo District Court, Judge Byrd was a successful attorney for 32 years, handling more than 350 cases in federal courts. In addition, his trial practice included work in 48 out of 64 Louisiana Parishes in both state and federal courts. He also represented the Caddo and Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Offices. He represented sheriffs, deputies, and police officers in various jurisdictions and also pursued the discipline of officers and deputies. In addition, he represented multiple fire districts, firemen, and EMS personnel.
Judge Byrd and his wife, Alison, grew up and attended area schools in Shreveport. They have been married for 40 years and have two married sons and many grandchildren.

- In 1989, Edwin graduated with honors from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center. While in law school, he was the Senior Editor of the Law Review.
